MFA Candidate Carmen Smith gets Accepted into SNAG’s Student Showcase.

Carmen is a 2nd year MFA Candidate at CCAD.  Originally from Toledo, Carmen received her BFA in Metals from Bowling Green State University.  Although she works in multiple mediums, she feels most drawn to bead work.  Carmen’s thesis deals with the history of feminism, and the contemporization of feminist theory.

Carmen recently was accepted into the SNAG (Society of North American Goldsmiths) student show.  SNAG is a nationwide network for metal smiths, jewelry makers and small-metal artists.  This year’s conference is in Minneapolis.

Her work that was accepted into the student show is titled “The Artist’s Hand”. ImageImage

“The Artist’s Hand” is a critique of the physical restrictions on females throughout History.  Women were physically restricted in multiple ways except for restrictions that would hinder women from craft making.

After graduation, Carmen is opening a bead store, and plans to continue her studio practice in the arts.
